Emergency Support

Helping People in Crisis

Volunteers loading food and supplies onto a truckVolunteers of America’s emergency services help individuals and families overcome personal challenges to lead productive, healthy lives.

Our approaches to intervention, rehabilitation and prevention work together to ensure that people in crisis don't stay that way. During emergencies, Volunteers of America addresses immediate needs, offers long-term support when necessary and educates with prevention outreach programs.

Clothing and Food

Volunteers distributing mealsVolunteers of America has a long history of providing basic needs such as food and clothing. Food pantries and clothes closets can be found across the nation in various Volunteers of America programs.

For instance, The Snohomish County Food Bank Distribution Center in Western Washington serves over 12,000 families each month, and over 3,000,000 pounds of food is distributed each year.  In the communities of Everette and Seattle, Washington, Volunteers of America of Western Washington provides a food bank that serves over 160 families each day.  Many of these families rely on the food bank as a way to make their earnings cover their cost of living.

The Volunteers of America Colorado Branch’s City Harvest Food Bank has been serving the metro Denver area for over 20 years.  The food bank collects and distributes food to area organizations serving those most in need, and over 20,000 individuals and 900,000 pounds of food are served each year.
